Hello

Welcome to my site! I’m an ardent writer with passion for creativity and expression. Check out my professional work, my blog “The Big Thoughts Project”, or my collection of short stories prompted by song “The B Side”

Lyrics & Time

Lyrics & Time

Found poetry often gets an eye-roll of a reputation. It is thought to be hokey or lazy. I’ve always loved it, because to me there is nothing more beautiful than a collection.

Moments that mean a lot in their own time and space never seem to get along with others until placed in a collage. When in a collective though, memories, thoughts, and hopes act like pieces of a heart beating together.

I have listened to so much music over the course of 2019, which became more of a period of growth than an actual year to me, and within it I collected lyrics that felt special. In reflection of the year, I put those special lyrics together in a found poem.

Is the poem reflective of my 2019? Not really. But, it does reflect letting go and holding on and staying still. I don’t know if it means anything at all or if it means something that i’ve yet to realize. Either way:

Against the silver sheen of a moon

like painted glass,

under stars out on a pier

a celestial sphere we were

weightless as the waves that disappeared.

I saw your face and I knew it

was a sign, I still think about

that moment all of the time.

At another place in time only parallel to mine the

universe was alright; And every evening, every time

I keep replaying in my mind and wondering

if you

do the same

But four drinks I’m wasted

I can see you dancing, I can lay down next to

you.

So open up my eyes to a new light; Hold me like

a child, run your fingers through my hair lying

on your couch. We could dream the night away

but there’s a full moon risin’

let’s go

dancing in the light

we know where

the music’s playin’, let’s go out and feel

the night. When your feet just can’t keep still,

I never knew me a better time

and I guess I never will.

I’m nothing more than a page unwritten

on the pavement, blowing in the wind.

You win a lot, and lose

just a little bit more than you gained

in the end. But God, I wish that I was

better than I am, but

no luck. You’re beautiful and I’m insane.

Don’t say it, ‘cause I know

I’m cute; but the film is a saddening bore

‘cause I wrote it ten times or more

it’s about to be writ again.

It’s a tap dance to you

it’s a minefield to me and I’m watching

every step; And every evening, every time

I keep replaying

in my mind and wondering; I can’t read you

but, if you want,

the pleasure’s all mine.

When you make up your mind I’ll tell you

all my secrets as we slip

between the city streets tonight; we just stay up

all year counting our vices dear,

and the shit that got us here.

I would love to have another drink of coffee,

now and please darling.

Help me smoke this one more cigarette now.

I don’t want no cream and sugar

cause I’ve got you now darling. But

just let me enjoy,

help me to enjoy,

this good time that we’ll have baby; Won’t you

keep me warm tonight?

Spit like a poet’s gun but

say how long can this go? Be so sweet if things just stayed the same;

All for freedom

and for pleasure.

Nothing ever lasts forever. Lost you in the morning

don’t live anywhere, I found myself

when I was going everywhere; And I still wonder

if I still lived in the city, would I see you at a party

take a big sip of my whiskey then leave quickly,

and pray you miss me.

Back to the howling old owl in the woods

hunting the horny back toad.

Oh, I’ve finally decided my future

lies beyond the yellow brick road.

A stranger to my skin, but now I’m braver

in my bones. You see I’m shooting for the moon,

you’re painting me in indigo. I’ve still got so much

love hidden beneath this skin; Sail on silver girl,

sail on by.

Your time has come to shine, all your dreams

are on their way

see how they shine; Maybe everything’s just turnin’ out

how it should be.
